Privacy Policy

We built CapFu on a simple principle: your captures are yours. This policy explains exactly what data we collect, why we collect it, and how you can control it.

Last updated: July 29, 2026  ·  Effective: July 13, 2026
The short version: Your screenshots, annotations, and OCR output never leave your device — all processing is local. The extension sends no telemetry. We only collect your email and payment details if you subscribe to Pro, and we never sell your data or show you ads.
01

Who We Are

CapFu is a browser extension and web service operated by CapFu, LLC, a company based in South Jordan, Utah, United States. When this policy refers to "CapFu," "we," "us," or "our," it means CapFu, LLC.

CapFu, LLC is responsible for personal information collected in connection with the website at gocapfu.com and the CapFu browser extension. For users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, CapFu, LLC is the data controller of your personal information.

02

What We Collect

2.1  Data we do NOT collect

The following data is processed entirely on your device and is never transmitted to our servers:

  • Screenshots, captures, and images you take with CapFu
  • Annotations, drawings, and markups you add to captures
  • Text extracted by the OCR feature (runs as a local WASM model)
  • The content of web pages you capture
  • Your browsing history

2.2  Extension data (all users)

When you install and use the CapFu extension, the following is stored in your browser using the browser's built-in storage APIs (IndexedDB and chrome.storage):

  • Your capture history (up to 8 recent captures)
  • Your annotation preferences (selected tool, color, stroke size)
  • Your UI settings (light/dark mode, toolbar state)
  • Your Pro license key, if you have one (stored in chrome.storage.sync)

This data is not sent to or accessible by CapFu, LLC. If you are signed in to Chrome, items saved with chrome.storage.sync (your license key and preferences) are synced across your signed-in browsers by Chrome Sync — this is a standard browser feature provided by Google, and the data is not transmitted to CapFu's servers.

2.3  Pro subscription data

If you purchase CapFu Pro, we collect and store:

  • Email address — used to issue your license key, send transactional receipts, and provide priority support
  • Payment details — collected and processed directly by our payment provider (WooCommerce Payments / Stripe). We store a billing reference but never see or store your full card number
  • License key activations — each time the extension activates or validates your key, a request is sent to our licensing server at gocapfu.com containing only the license key itself

2.4  Website data

When you visit gocapfu.com, we may automatically receive:

  • Your IP address (used for security and rate-limiting, not for tracking)
  • Browser type, OS, and referral URL via standard server logs
  • Pages visited and time on site, collected anonymously via privacy-respecting analytics

We do not use Google Analytics or any cross-site tracking pixels.

2.5  No extension telemetry

The CapFu extension does not send crash reports, usage analytics, or any telemetry to our servers or to any third party. Its only outbound network request is the license validation described in section 2.3.

03

How We Use Your Data

We use the data we collect solely to operate and improve CapFu:

  • To issue, activate, and validate your Pro license key
  • To send transactional emails (purchase confirmations, license keys, renewal reminders)
  • To provide priority support to Pro subscribers
  • To understand how our website is used in aggregate, via privacy-respecting analytics, so we can improve it
  • To comply with legal obligations (e.g. tax records, fraud prevention)

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose not listed above.

04

Third Parties & Sub-Processors

We share data with a small number of trusted services necessary to operate CapFu. We do not sell your data to any third party.

Payment processing — Stripe

Pro subscription payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. Your card details go directly to Stripe's servers and are never seen by us. Stripe is PCI DSS Level 1 certified. Stripe Privacy Policy →

E-commerce platform — WooCommerce

Our store and license management is built on WooCommerce running on our own servers in the United States. No data is shared with Automattic as part of our licensing setup.

Email delivery

Transactional emails (receipts, license keys) are sent via a third-party email delivery provider. Only your email address and order reference are shared for this purpose.

Hosting — US-based infrastructure

Our servers are located in the United States. By using CapFu, you consent to your information being processed and stored in the United States.

05

Cookies

The CapFu extension does not use cookies.

The gocapfu.com website uses a small number of strictly necessary cookies to keep you logged in to your account and to process checkout. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies.

  • Session cookies — keep you signed in during a single browsing session
  • Preference cookies — remember your light/dark mode choice
  • WooCommerce cart cookies — remember your cart contents during checkout

You can disable cookies in your browser settings. Doing so may prevent some site features (like checkout) from working correctly.

06

Data Retention

  • Capture history — stored locally in your browser indefinitely until you clear it or uninstall the extension
  • License and account data — retained for the duration of your subscription plus three years for tax and legal compliance
  • Email address — retained until you request deletion; we remove it within 30 days of a confirmed request
  • Server logs — retained for 90 days for security purposes, then automatically purged
  • Anonymous analytics — retained in aggregate form indefinitely (no personal data)

07

Regardless of where you live, you can contact us at any time to exercise the following choices. We respond to all requests within 30 days at no charge.

Deletion Request that we delete your personal data from our systems.
Opt-Out Opt out of any future marketing emails at any time.

California Residents (CCPA / CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), including the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete it, the right to correct it, and the right to opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information. To submit a request, email us at privacy@gocapfu.com with the subject line "California Privacy Request."

European Economic Area, UK & Switzerland (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, your personal data is protected under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and equivalent UK and Swiss law. CapFu, LLC is the data controller for your personal information.

We process your personal data on the following legal bases: performance of a contract (issuing and validating your Pro license and providing support); our legitimate interests (securing our service, preventing fraud, and operating our website); your consent (marketing emails, which you may withdraw at any time); and compliance with legal obligations (such as tax record-keeping).

In addition to the choices listed above, you have the right to restrict or object to our processing of your data, the right to withdraw consent at any time, and the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.

Because our servers are located in the United States, your personal data is transferred to and processed in the US. Where required by law, we rely on appropriate safeguards and your explicit consent for this transfer. To exercise any of these rights, email us at privacy@gocapfu.com with the subject line "GDPR Request."

08

Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data:

  • All data in transit between your browser and our servers is encrypted with TLS (HTTPS)
  • License keys are stored hashed in our database
  • Payment card data is never stored on our servers — it goes directly to Stripe
  • Access to production systems is restricted to core team members via SSH key authentication

No system is perfectly secure. If we become aware of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you promptly in accordance with applicable US state and federal law, and, where applicable, the GDPR.

09

Children's Privacy

CapFu is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13 in compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10

Governing Law

This Privacy Policy and any disputes arising from it are governed by the laws of the State of Utah and applicable federal law of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. By using CapFu, you consent to the jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Salt Lake County, Utah. Nothing in this section removes any mandatory data-protection rights you have under the laws of your country of residence.

11

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top and, for material changes, notify Pro subscribers by email at least 14 days in advance.

Continued use of CapFu after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
